Breast Cancer - Checks & Symptoms
October is breast cancer awareness month.
Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women, just behind skin cancer.
Women ages 50 to 74 years old should have a screening mammogram every two years.
Women ages 40 to 49 years old, should talk with a healthcare provider about when to start and how often to get a screening mammogram, which is dependent on risk factors.
It helps to be aware of symptoms of breast cancer, so you can talk to your healthcare provider right away.
These are common symptoms, though you may have none at all:
Any change in the size or the shape of the breast.
Pain in any area of the breast.
Nipple discharge other than breast milk (including blood).
A new lump in the breast or underarm.
Take care of your body, my friends! It’s the only one you get!
