Coping with Disaster...

The east coast has recently seen the devastation of a hurricane much like we saw in Texas last year.

This may bring up feelings that you experienced during the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.

The CDC has some recommendations to help cope with a disaster.

  • Take care of your body by eating healthy meals, exercising regularly, and getting rest.

  • Seek out others who have had a similar experience, and share your feelings.

  • Take the time to do things you enjoy, instead of dwelling on your strong feelings.

  • Seek help when needed – If distress impacts activities of your daily life for several days or weeks, talk to a healthcare provider or contact the SAMHSA helpline at 1-800-985-5990.
