Eating ourselves to death...
Diabetes and heart disease are among the top 4 causes of death worldwide.
Overweight and obesity increase the risk for both heart disease and diabetes, and weight loss reverses or improves these conditions more than most medications.
The World Health Organization statistics list the US at number 1 in prevalence of overweight and obese adults, with other agencies finding 2/3 of all adults in the US in this group and trending upwards toward 75%.
In fact, obesity directly accounts for higher health-care costs, and may be an even bigger source of health care costs than smoking!
There are many reasons for this increase in obesity in this country, but likely the biggest problem is convenience.
In this fast-paced society, we eat more processed foods and fast food/restaurant food than ever before. These types of food are higher in fat and salt than is healthy. Most people do not take the time to exercise 30 minutes daily.
Many do not drink 60-80 ounces of water daily, or eat a variety of fruits and vegetables daily.
If we just get back to healthy living habits ( that most of us learned in elementary school health class, but abandoned), we would be healthier as individuals and as a nation.
Try eat just a little healthier each day!
